HONOURARY MEMBERS OF THE ATP

The following are honourary members of the Association of Tongue-tie Practitioners. Both of our honourary members have a vast experience of dealing with tongue-ties and provide the association with expert advise and support as required. We would like to thank our honourary members for their ongoing support.

Catherine Watson Genna, expert advisor to ATP

Catherine Watson Genna BS, International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) is an honorary member and expert advisor to the ATP.

Catherine is particularly interested in helping mums and babies breastfeed when they have medical challenges.

She speaks to healthcare professionals around the world on assisting breastfeeding babies with anatomical, genetic or neurological problems.





Mervyn Griffiths retired Consultant Paediatric Surgeon, is an honorary member and expert advisor to ATP. He started dividing tongue-ties in older babies in 1989 at University Hospitals Southampton and was invited to start dividing them in newborn babies by the Poole Lactation Consultants in 1998.

Since then he supervised the University Hospitals Southampton Tongue-tie service which has divided in excess of 10,000 tongue-ties since 1989.

Mervyn is a founder member of the International Affiliation of Tongue-tie Professionals (IATP), the central group for advice, research, education and parental guidance.

He has supported Carolyn Westcott and Jayne Threllfall who have trained over 100 lactation professionals who are now able to divide tongue-ties independently.

He has co-authored 4 research articles on tongue-ties, including 2 randomised controlled trials and given many lectures to doctors, nurses, lactation consultants and other health professionals about tongue-ties. Mervyn provides a source of support to the ATP when there are concerns about the right course of treatment for babies with thick, recurrent, abnormal, scarred or uncertain tongue-ties.
