MEET THE COMMITTEE

Sarah Oakley - Chair

Sarah Oakley

My background is in nursing and health visiting. After qualifying as a Health Visitor in 2003 I quickly realised that there was a huge need for skilled breastfeeding support in the area where I worked and trained as a Breastfeeding Counsellor with the Association of Breastfeeding Mothers (ABM). This greatly enhanced the skills and knowledge I had and gave me the opportunity to work on the National Breastfeeding Helpline and set up a local breastfeeding support group.

In 2009 I left the NHS to focus on breastfeeding and set up my own private practice having qualified as in International Board Certified Lactation Consultant. In 2011 I trained at Southampton to perform frenulotomy and have done over 700 procedures privately since. I continue to work on a volunteer basis for the ABM answering email enquiries from mothers and as part of the training team. I have been involved in training midwives, health visitors and am currently training several groups of peer supporters across Cambridgeshire. I also work in two weekly breastfeeding support groups and run a weekly feeding assessment clinic alongside an osteopath and speech therapist.

I have been involved in the ATP from the start and am very proud to be part of it. I am looking forward to contributing to the growth and development of the association over the coming year.

Luci Lishman - Association of Tongue-tie Practitioners Treasurer

I started working for the NHS in 1986 when I began my general nurse training at the Middlesex Hospital in London. I then trained as a midwife and worked at Stoke Mandeville Hospital over a 17 year period with short breaks to have my three children. The latter 7½ years were as a breastfeeding coordinator midwife. In 2006, after extensive study and clinical experience I was able to fulfil my goal of passing the exam to become an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant and set up Chiltern Breastfeeding Partnership in March 2007 with my colleague Addy Henderson.

In April 2009 I trained at Southampton Hospital to be able to perform tongue-tie division (frenulotomy) on babies under 6 months with feeding difficulties. Since then I have been doing this privately in the home and within my tongue-tie clinics. This service has proved to be extremely helpful and necessary as there is limited NHS provision in the area. I left the NHS in September 2009 in order to meet the increasing need for this procedure and have carried out in excess of 1000 procedures. I still continue to provide private breastfeeding support and breastfeeding education and updating for health visitors and other community staff.

Suzanne Barber - Secretary and Events Co-ordinator

Suzanne Barber - Association of Tongue-tie Practitioners Chair

In December 2012 the Association of Tongue-tie Practitioners was begun with a small group of interested health professionals. Since then I have been proud to have been the Chair of the ATP and in March 2016 I have stepped down and assumed the role of secretary and event coordinator. I actively encourage anyone with a particular interest in Tongue Tie Division to join the association and benefit from reduction in conference fees, the closed Facebook forum and networking at our tri-monthly meetings and forums.

I qualified as a registered nurse in 1990 and registered midwife in 1992, and currently enjoy working in my private practice. I have been an IBCLC since 2010 and use my lactation consultant experience to support mothers in all aspects of breastfeeding. In 2011 I became competent in my role as a tongue tie practitioner and have gained experience both in the NHS and now through my private practice covering Bedfordshire and the surrounding counties.

With an NHS background in Nursing, Midwifery and Health Visiting, I undertook further training with Carolyn Westcott and Mervyn Griffiths (Consultant Paediatric Surgeon) at Southampton General Hospital and have been able to perform frenulotomies since 2008.

Additionally, I qualified as an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant in 2005. I have been, and still am, an active member of the Lactation Consultants of Great Britain. I now run my own business offering breastfeeding support and frenulotomy.

I look forward to my contact with you in my role as the Membership Secretary for the Association of Tongue-tie Practitioners

Vicky Jordan - Website Co-ordinator

Vicky Jordan

My name is Vicky Jordan and I am a Registered Nurse, Breastfeeding Counsellor and Tongue-tie Practitioner operating in Kent & Medway and the surrounding areas.

I qualified as a nurse in 1998 and for most of my career I have worked within the NHS working with adults. After the birth of my first daughter I became a La Leche League Leader (Breastfeeding Counsellor) in 2010, following my own breastfeeding experience. More recently, in 2014, I undertook specialist training at Southampton General Hospital for the division of tongue-tie (frenulotomy). This was under the supervision of Mr Mervyn Griffiths MCh FRCS & Jayne Threlfall RM IBCLC.

In addition to my private practice, I continue to be involved with breastfeeding groups in my local area on a voluntary basis. I also facilitate parent communications skills workshops based on the books "How to Talk so Kids will Listen, and Listen so Kids will Talk" and "Siblings without Rivalry"

I am a busy mother of two young children, who are educated at home and I also facilitate and co-ordinate Red Tent meetings in Medway. I knit and crochet when I can.

I have enjoyed being a member of the ATP since 2013 and appreciate the frequent meetings, where have my need for sharing best practice, and general support met.
